Community foundation accepting spring grant applications

Community foundation accepting spring grant applications
SMITH CENTER, Kan.—The Smith County Community Foundation is now accepting applications for spring grants. Online applications are due Thursday, April 15, 2021.

Last spring, the West Smith County Recreation Commission identified a need for scoreboards at both the gymnasium and football field for Thunder Ridge High School to be replaced.

Thanks to a grant from the community foundation, the project was able to be fully funded and both scoreboards were replaced as a result of grant generosity. “The new scoreboards have already generated a good deal of positive response from the student athletes and community members both for their esthetic appeal as well as anticipated improved function,” said grantee Donald Wiens.

This year, over $75,000 in grants is available to charitable projects in Smith County. This cycle will fund local community projects that meet one or more of the following criteria:

• Projects and programs that improve the quality of life for Smith County residents.
• Projects and programs that address education, health care, community social services and security, conservation and environment, arts and culture, and community beautification.

Funding for the spring grant cycle is provided by the Dane G. Hansen Community Grant Fund, the Health Needs for Smith County Fund and the Smith County Action Fund.

Grants are limited to communities in Smith County and will be awarded through a competitive application process. Non-profit organizations, government and public entities, educational institutions and churches are encouraged to apply. Applications must be submitted online by 11:59 p.m. on April 15.
