Community foundation awards over $42,000 in spring grants!

SMITH CENTER, Kan.— During its spring grant cycle, the Smith County Community Foundation awarded over $42,000 to 11 projects throughout the Smith County area. The following organizations received funding:

  • S. Center Foundation, Inc., $4,317.86 to purchase inflatables, a climbing wall, and an escape room trailer for the Lebanon Bash.
  • Smith County Memorial Hospital, $9,140.98 to purchase crisis care lifespan mannequin simulators and tibia training bones.
  • Cedar Cemetery, $1,103.97 to purchase new Grand Army of the Republic signage and paint for the monument.
  • USD 110, $2,650 to replace the current mower.
  • USD 237, $7,000 to assist in purchasing 10 new desktop computers for the journalism department.
  • Kensington Senior/Community Center, Inc., $1,982 to fund the fabrication and installation of a 60” wide by 36” tall aluminum awning.
  • Smith Center Chamber of Commerce, $2,000 to assist in the purchase of a new PA system for downtown.
  • SunPorch of Smith County, $5,000 to assist in the purchase of equipment for therapists and their patients.
  • USD 237, $2,886 to assist in the purchase of 2 premier recovery couches with storage for the school health rooms.
  • Country View Village, $3,000 to be used for materials and labor for apartment improvements.
  • Smith County Child Development Center, Inc., $3,800 to purchase a portable dishwasher and pay for electrical work to install commercial oven.

This round of grants was made possible by the following funds at the community foundation: Smith County Action Fund, Dane G. Hansen Community Grant Fund, Health Needs of Smith County Fund, Kansas Health Foundation Fund for Smith County, and Kelling-Tomlinson Family Donor-Advised Fund.
