Over $71,000 awarded in Fall Grants

During its fall grant cycle, the Smith County Community Foundation awarded over $71,000 to fourteen projects throughout the Smith County area. The following organizations received funding:

  • Smith Center Fire Department $7,500 to purchase pagers and radios for the Smith Center Volunteer Fire Dept.
  • Smith Center Chamber of Commerce, $800 to purchase new brackets for display flags to be used on Main Street.
  • Oak Township, Lebanon, $4,680 to help purchase and install flag poles at both cemeteries.
  • Sunporch of Smith County, $4,671 to purchase a Maxi-Twin Mechanical Lift
  • Smith County Health Department, $1,500 to purchase breastfeeding supplies, raffle prizes, educational games, and safe sleep supplies for the community baby shower.
  • City of Gaylord, $14,000 toward the Gaylord City Park Renovation Project.
  • Smith County Free Fair, $14,000 to purchase replacement animal pens.
  • USD 110, $2,800 to purchase a baseball infield light fixture and help with installation.
  • Walk His Way LTD, $5,000 to pay costs associated with stage, sound and light rental at Walk His Way 2025.
  • USD 237, $6,250 to purchase a marimba and instrument stands as part of the Band Restoration project.
  • Country View Village, $3,300 to purchase and install Smoke Detectors and GFI Outlets.
  • Smith County Historical Society, $5,100 to purchase and install a new HVAC system
  • USD 327, $2,000 to purchase digital drawing tablets.
  • SONShine Christian Church, $5,000 to help pay for labor and materials for development of concrete parking lot with two handicap parking spaces.

This round of grants was made possible by five funds at the community foundation: the Smith County Action Fund, which supports community grantmaking, the Dane G. Hansen Community Grant Fund, which focuses on improving quality of life throughout the county, the Kansas Health Foundation Fund for Smith County and the Health Needs of Smith County Fund, that supports the public health of Smith County, and the Kelling-Tomlinson Family Donor Advised Fund.
