Smith County Community Foundation awards $52,000 in fall grants

SMITH CENTER, Kan.— During its fall grant cycle, the Smith County Community Foundation awarded over $52,000 to nine projects throughout the Smith County area. The following organizations received funding:

  • City of Kensington, $3,927 to purchase playground equipment for the Roadside Park.
  • City of Lebanon, $11,300 for repairing and re-coating the city’s water tower.
  • City of Lebanon, $363.01 for the addition of a carpet map to the Lebanon Library.
  • USD 237, $4,339.90 to replace the outdated sewing machines in the Smith Center FCS Department.
  • American Legion Fred Marran Post #166, $17,500 for replacement of the HVAC system.
  • Mary’s Catholic Church, $10,000 for updates to the Parish Center Meeting Room, including new flooring, replacement of chairs, and repainting the walls.
  • Country View Village, $3,000 for apartment improvements, including mop board heaters work and new vinyl flooring.
  • SunPorch of Smith County, $1,500 to replace five pressure reducing mattresses.
  • SunPorch of Smith County, $520 for the purchase of two ear wax removal tools and pocket scope otoscopes.

This round of grants was made possible by four funds at the community foundation: the Dane G. Hansen Community Grant Fund, which focuses on improving quality of life throughout the county, the Kansas Health Foundation Fund for Smith County, that supports the public health of Smith County, the Smith County Action Fund, which supports community grantmaking, and the Kelling-Tomlinson Family Donor Advised Fund.
