Smith County Community Foundation awards over $61,000 in fall grants!

SMITH CENTER, Kan.— During its fall grant cycle, the Smith County Community Foundation awarded over $61,000 to thirteen projects throughout the Smith County area. The following organizations received funding:

  • Walk His Way LTD, $10,000 for costs associated with stage rental for Walk His Way 2024.
  • USD 110, $6,000 for LED lighting fixtures for the football and baseball/softball fields.
  • City of Kensington, $4,218 to purchase swings and benches for Roadside Park.
  • Smith County Health Department, $6,306 to purchase OAE hearing equipment.
  • Smith County Memorial Hospital, $3,000 towards surgical equipment for orthopedic knee scopes.
  • S. Center Foundation, Inc., $1,830 to make electrical upgrades in the food court area near the Lebanon Community Center.
  • USD 237, $10,000 to purchase weight equipment for the Smith Center Junior Senior High School weight room.
  • Heart Choices, $2,000 towards the purchase of an ultrasound machine for Smith Center Heart Choices, a Step by Step FCCLA STAR event project.
  • USD 237, $10,000 for repairs and purchase of band equipment.
  • Kansas Western Horseman’s Association, Inc., $1,000 for Smith County Heartland Riders horse stall project for the KWHA 2024 state show.
  • American Lutheran Church, $5,000 towards driveway concrete, handicap parking pads, and handicap accessible sidewalks.
  • USD 237, $1,500 for updates at the Smith Center Elementary and Junior Senior High School nurse’s office.
  • Smith Center Recreation Commission, $250 to assist Center Stage Productions.

This round of grants was made possible by five funds at the community foundation: the Smith County Action Fund, which supports community grantmaking, the Dane G. Hansen Community Grant Fund, which focuses on improving quality of life throughout the county, the Kansas Health Foundation Fund for Smith County and the Health Needs of Smith County Fund, that supports the public health of Smith County, and the Kelling-Tomlinson Family Donor Advised Fund.
